C is for cookie - that's good enough for me

Hey all,

Guess what we did last night? We made good old fashioned chocolate chip cookies!! We were inspired after indulging in a few cookies (Eric stopped counting at 10) at Trace and Karen's (fellow missionaries learning French here in Switzerland). With no measuring cups and no vanilla, we kind of winged the recipe, but they turned out great! Swiss chocolate may be good, but a chocolate chip cookie fresh from the oven beats it every time.

Food has been a big part of our experience here in Switzerland. Last weekend alone, we were invited to 4 separate homes for meals, and the meals included meatloaf (yum!!!), crepes (please pass the chocolate spread), raclette (cheese, cheese, and more cheese), and spaghetti (which was followed by a big pot of chocolate fondue). If wasn't for all the walking we did each day, we probably would exceed the airline weight limit (if they had one for passengers).

You might be asking yourself, "I thought you were there to learn French, not to eat!!". And you would be correct. But here in Switzerland, to practice French, you are often invited to someone's house. And if someone invites you to their house, there is bound to be food involved. God has blessed us abundantly with people willing to listen to our broken French, and feed us on top of that. Maybe people offer us food so they have a break from hearing our French! :)

French acquistion has been tough at times, with studying always being on our minds (Wendy has been found conjugating verbs in her sleep), but it also has its funny moments (such as when Eric, intending to say "I am hungry", said instead "I am woman"). Needless to say, he sticks closely to Wendy (by far the better speaker of the two), and thoughts of speaking on his own sends shivers down his spine.

But seriously, God's hand is clearly evident here. From the support of the Swiss church (so many people willing to help), to the English breaks with fellow missionaries (Trace, Karen, Sabine, and Mark), to the love and support of family and friends back home, we have truly been blessed. We can tell that people are praying for us!

Thanks so much for your prayers and support!

Love,

Eric and Wendy
