We have great news - Dr. Elisee Baruwa, Bongolo Hospital's first ophthalmology resident, has arrived! He arrived this last Monday evening and got settled into his home the following day, then had a welcoming ceremony with the hospital workers on Wednesday morning and began work. We will post some pictures sometime in the next few weeks.
Dr. Baruwa is from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he attended medical school and worked as a generalist for the last few years. His wife Micheline and 3-week old baby daughter Ruth will be joining him at Bongolo tomorrow. He speaks French but is able to read some English. Wendy is getting used to speaking twice as much French in the average day as she's used to, teaching everything as it comes up. He's an avid reader and is excited about what God will do during these next 3 years of residency, and then with his following 5 years of commitment at Bongolo hospital.
Thank you for all your prayers for their family's travels! They are currently in temporary housing, and as soon as we are able to raise the $40,000 to build him an on-campus apartment, they will move into their permanent home. Please email us if you'd like to donate for this.
